Revise Diagnostic Essay

Advertisements are seen everywhere all the time, whether were watching television or passing through the mall. We can be walking down the street and people hand us pamphlets trying to advertise their products and services. Many of us may get frustrated from all the ads broadcasting on every aspect of our day. In the article “ Hype” by Katie Lasn, Kate talks about the frustration people get due to advertisements. In my opinion advertisements should be limited and the companies who advertise their products should have limits on how much advertising they can do.

In the article “Hype” by Lasn, Lasn talks about the frustrations of consistent advertising. She comments on how no matter where you go billboards of commercials are seen. She states that upto the fact of when you go to put some gas into a car we are bombarded with advertisements.

Since advertisements lead to frustration they maybe a source of harm. Advertisement of negative products such as chips, candy and soda attract many children and make these children want to purchase these products. By purchasing such products children and adults have a higher chance of getting diseases like obesity.

Advertisements are also a way our time can be wasted as each advertisement we watch on TV is minutes long. When we intend to watch the super bowl, soaps or even the news, many commercials play between the breaks consuming a lot of time. This then becomes another source of anger.

In conclusion, the increase in advertisements has made our lives very disturbed. I agree with Lasn on the fact that no matter where we go advertisements are seen everywhere. Whether we are at home or in public transit, there are advertisements everywhere! Hence, there is no way to escape from advertisements.
